Steven has been Player Director at the LTA since the beginning of 2007. He is responsible for talent identification and development, high performance player and coach education, the set up of high performance centres throughout the country. In addition to that his is responsible for setting up and delivering of an interdisciplinary approach for the top players at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, London (joining up sports science and men’s and women’s tennis). He joined the LTA’s tennis leadership team in an effort to make Britain one of the leading nations in tennis over the next decade.

Previously he was Technical Director of the Belgian Tennis Federation (VTV 2005 -2006). He was also the captain for both the Belgian Davis Cup (2001-2005) and Fed cup (1993 -1998) teams. He was head coach at the VTV training centre (1998 – 2005) and has worked with players such as: Sabine Appelmans, Laurence Courtois, Kim Clysters, Justine Henin, Xavier Malisse, Olivier Rochus, Kristof Vliegen and Steve Darcis.

Steven holds a Master in Classical Philology (Leuven 1986) and Toptrainer Tennis (BLOSO 1998). Steven has given lectures in coaches education courses and conferences for more than 15 years has been a co-commentator for Canal + and VRT, authored/ co-authored a number of books.
In 1997 Steven was awarded the ITF Coach fair play award.
